New York State Police troopers were dispatched at approximately 9:38 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to a stretch of the parkway in Hempstead, where there was a report of a Toyota Tundra purposefully ramming an Audi near exit M8.
Troopers attempted to intervene and stop the driver - later identified as Hempstead resident Armondo Carcamo-Rivera, 41 - which had become hooked to the bumper of the Audi, but instead, Carcamo-Rivera refused to stop and once free from the Audi, attempted to flee a short distance.
Police said that Carcamo-Rivera then struck the Audi again, pushing it with State Police and Parks Police still attempting to stop him. Carcamo-Rivera allegedly stopped, backed into a Parks Police vehicle and proceeded to flee again.
Carcamo-Rivera was followed into Suffolk County, onto Howells Road in Bay Shore, at which point the pickup truck became disabled and Carcamo-Rivera was arrested.
According to police, Carcamo-Rivera was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, fleeing police officers, driving while impaired by drugs, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. No return court date has been announced following his arraignment on Thursday, Oct. 17.
